The present work focuses on the historical heritage zone of Marfil (Roldán and Mejía, 2024), located southwest downtown Guanajuato, within the area declared as a World Heritage Site; with emphasis on religious architecture where the sacred space is characterized through the memory of the inhabitants. Searching from “the historical-spacing nature” (Yori, 2007) and cyclical practices, to identify the “places” (Vargas and Sánchez, 2010) that have contributed to the significance; as well as those that mark territoriality considering one of its axes: appropriation as a way of living and inhabiting the territory (Avendaño, 2010). Thus, various scenarios were determined in which they are constructed as socio-spatial holograms, where “the narrator refers to specific places and practices that unfold there, true spatio-temporal scenarios of daily life” (Lindón, 2007, p.43). Images and narratives were compiled in the period from 2013 to 2024, work that is complemented by research in documentary sources (archives and publications) and field work, in order to characterize the physical-cultural space. The research whose partial results are presented here corresponds to a postdoctoral stay at the University of Guanajuato funded by CONAHCYT.
