Abstract

In recent years, the city of Hermosillo has experienced a growing process of expansion of rural urbanizations on peri-urban territory, previously a place of rural activities. The process has implications for urban and social dynamics. Firstly, it refers to a social imaginary that aims to return to the countryside, the reunion of family and nature, to build the dream house with urban comforts; Secondly, it means rural gentrification, economically wealthier social groups than rural inhabitants occupy the agricultural territory, the peri-urban land and the desert environment and constitute themselves as neo-rural residents or owners of second homes. The objective of the text is the study of the phenomenon known as rural urbanization, located on peri-urban territory and its urban, social and environmental consequences and impacts. A descriptive approach to the process was carried out using various observation techniques and some still preliminary results were obtained.
