Abstract

From the first mobility process for tourism purposes, one of the prevailing needs has been the
lodging. Over time and due to multiple factors, tourism development went through different
stages and the needs of lodging were transformed and created a series of typologies, such as the
traditional hotel, timeshare, second residence and in recent years, the collaborative lodging. This
last model of residential tourist lodging was motivated by the digital transformation and its
influence on information and communication technologies, social networks and access culture,
which together are triggering an accelerated real estate development form lodging purposes in
the main tourist destinations. Puerto Vallarta is no exception, and the real estate business found

in collaborative tourism an important incentive to expand the touristic area by building new and
modern towers of departments for tourist use in the residential spaces of the local population,
which they market under the scheme of digital platforms such as Airbnb. Situation that generates
a series of tensions with the local community, given the threat of displacement and the alteration
of their daily life environment.
