THE POPULAR HOUSING IN CULIACAN: AN EXPRESSION OF THE ARCHITECTURAL CULTURAL HERITAGE OF THE 20TH CENTURY
Keywords:
Popular housing, Architectural Cultural Heritage, modern architectureAbstract
The emergence of popular neighborhoods in Culiacán in the mid-20th century produced intense housing construction in all sectors of the city, with common typological and identity characteristics. This research analyzes contemporary popular housing as a part of the Architectural Cultural Heritage that is not recognized and in danger of extinction. Daily life drives a constant transformation of popular housing in which aspects such as consumerism, fashion, migration, globalization, drug trafficking and the search for identity continue to influence its spatial and constructive forms. Popular housing adapts to these cultural changes, of which we present a sample, as well as its continuities as living spaces. We highlight the elements that survive in this transformative everyday life, as a symbolic representation, becoming material cultural heritage of the 20th century, little recognized by protective laws. The information was collected through bibliographic review, archives, press, field work in urban tours and interviews.
