THE NEED FOR INTEGRATIVE MANAGEMENT OF LARGE PARKS FOR THE SUSTAINABILITY OF THE METROPOLITAN AREA OF MONTERREY

The article presents a description of the main variables of the urban development of the Monterrey Metropolitan Area (AMM), focusing on the conditions that have generated its current urban form and the trends on future stages of its development; Relevant aspects are addressed for the analysis of the ecosystem services offered by large urban parks and natural monuments located on the periphery and metropolitan interior, their importance is highlighted to guarantee the sustainable development of the AMM, among these services, the article addresses the issue of water management and the importance of ecological preservation of current supply sources as a basic measure to guarantee the sustainability of urban development. In conclusion, the need to have comprehensive management of large parks is highlighted, as well as the need to plan with long-term objectives and regional scope for the construction of large support infrastructures for the AMM that support the sustainable exploitation of the current resources offered by large parks and natural monuments in order to foresee shortage scenarios due to the projected increase in the metropolitan population and the development trends of the urban form in the future.
