Abstract

The sound landscape of the world is changing. One of the causes is the gentrification in the cities, mainly in those declared world cultural assets. In 1988 the city of Guanajuato obtained the label World Cultural Heritage and is, since 1953, the official home of the Festival Internacional Cervantino (FIC). These two circumstances have generated economical and social changes in the population of the city as well as in their cultural practices, particularly in those concerning the Sound Landscape, subject of this article.

Our aim is to identify the elements that constitute the Sound Landscape as a constructive axis in the building of identity as well as the new forms of appropriation of sites of memory in the city of Guanajuato, Mexico.
