Abstract

In the 21st century, touristification has caused the gentrification of the Historic Center of Mazatlán, which is perceived in the landscape composed of heritage urban spaces, historical monuments, emblematic and tourist sites, as well as architectural structures designed with tourist orientation and urban delimitations that reorder and establish public space, whether permanently or temporarily. The method proposed by Méndez (2016) is applied to analyze
the cultural heritage landscape in Mazatlán from a perspective of tourist valorization of the territory, based on the following indicators: place, decorated shed, plateau, interstice, emblem and itinerary. The methodology proposes the qualitative approach, being a case study; The main bibliographical sources are Augé (1994) (2003), Choay (2007), Simmel (2012), Hiernaux and González (2014), González-Varas (2015), Méndez (2016) and Castillo (2020); application of structured interviews, participant observation and photographic surveys. Gentrification and touristic valorization are considered as transforming phenomena of cultural heritage, conceiving current touristification as propitiatory of consumption spaces. The preponderance of tourist effects on the pre-existing landscape of the Historic Center of Mazatlán is concluded and foreseen, with repercussions on the conservation of the architectural and urban heritage.
