Abstract

Current speed of urban sprawl, have crucial impact on capacity of management of these processes and indicates the necessity to find appropriate methodologies according to cities’ demand in developing economies. This research proposed to innovate in current planning procedures, with the purpose to overcome the printed document and offer more effective alternatives. It seeks to propose an urban planning methodology that considers Geographic Information Technologies (GIT) that allow to identify priority areas that require Government intervention, including self-financial fund and, with the support of Communication Technologies (ICTs) in order to increase public trust and involve citizen participation.

The following paper assemble the research´s achievements, carried out within the framework of a Doctorate in Geography, analysing alternatives for managing urban growth in developing countries, taking Gran Resistencia, a middle sized city located in the Northeast of Argentina, as a case study.
