Acapulco City is a place with more than four hundred years old and with a very peculiar configuration that began tourism in 1927, and which had a small population. Acapulco began an excessive development, significantly changing its physiognomy during the twentieth century, leaving behind the old urban center that in the twenties concentrated the political, administrative, commercial and cultural functions, becoming the largest city in the state of
Guerrero, today its territory exceeds 12 thousand hectares. The indiscriminate transformation of ejido land into urban and more for the construction of tourism infrastructure; has been one of the factors that has contributed to the anarchic growth of Acapulco, generating the deterioration of the natural landscape, an essential element in a tourist center. The port was the most important tourist center in Mexico, with international recognition, and received
preferential treatment with respect to the introduction and maintenance of its infrastructure and tourist equipment. The great growth of this town, dragged various social and urban problems, although it had a significant number of urban development plans during the twentieth century. Of the four tourist areas into which Acapulco has been divided, the oldest tourist area is the one with a significant deterioration in the environment, infrastructure and built heritage. To a greater extent the Traditional area has been affected, but also the Golden, while the Diamond that is currently under development is the one with the largest investment and Pie de la Cuesta in the omission.
