Abstract

Currently, landscape is considered not only as a physical space but also as a reality constructed from social and cultural imaginaries, where natural and social elements coexist. The study of landscape as a symbolic system allows us to understand the meanings, forms of knowledge, and ideologies of a collective or social group. In this sense, we present an analysis of the valuation and transformation of the landscape on Mexcaltitán Island from the
perspective of its users, recognizing that the conception of the landscape should encompass not only preserved natural spaces but also those that have been modified and degraded. This analysis aims to promote the importance, protection, and comprehensive management of landscapes, considering their aesthetic value and their significance for society.
