Abstract

The importance of green areas (G.A.) lies in the multifunctionality involved in the environmental, social and cultural benefits. However, the focus on G.A. are more related to population use, rather than a continuum of green infrastructure; creating however, dissociated urban elements, even when those should be considered as intrinsic elements in an urban and natural continuum in the demarcation of cities. In this sense, the social and environmental conditions that exist in the cities of Irapuato, León and Celaya of the urban-industrial corridor of Guanajuato highlight the need to carry out research on the importance of green areas, their distribution and benefits to residents. For the above, public green areas of more than 0.5 ha were delimited and an area of influence of up to 500 meters in radius was defined. The main results found a poor distribution of green areas, since some blocks had access to up to 3 green areas, while almost half of the blocks of the three cities were beyond the established distance and mostly in a context of very high marginalization It is concluded that it is necessary to include green areas in more areas to ensure access, mainly in the most marginalized areas.
